OUR HISTORY
WHAT WAS INHERITED. WHAT WAS CORRECTED. WHAT REMAINS.
The history of the Rite was not recorded by one hand. Some pages were preserved. Others were corrected.

HORNTAK VALLEY · 1918
WHERE IT BEGAN
The history of the Rite began when Henry Ozley returned from the Great War carrying a living fungal specimen the military had ordered him to destroy.
There was no community then. No doctrine. No promise of Return. There was only Henry, the Valley, and SOMETHING BENEATH THE SOIL ANSWERED HIM

OUR FOUNDER
GORDON OZLEY
Gordon Ozley did not seek the Valley. The Valley answered a question he was not yet ready to ask. He has devoted his life to listening, remembering, and preparing us for the return that comes to all who are willing.

A LIFE IN SERVICE TO THE CYCLE

HIS EARLY YEARS
Gordon Ozley was born in 1940 to Edith Ozley and Simon Dunbar in the Horntak Valley. From a young age, he spent more time in the woods than among people, learning the language of roots and the patience of stone
He was known for his quiet nature and his habit of asking questions that unsettled his elders.

THE FIRST LISTENING
At seventeen, Gordon encountered the first Returned beyond the northern ridge. It did not speak, but he heard what others did not.
He began keeping notes, collecting what was left behind, and recording patterns that did not belong to the living.

THE RETURN TO THE VALLEY
After several years away, Gordon returned to Horntak Valley in 1972.
The Valley had called him back. He took up his mother’s charge and his father’s silence, continuing the work of listening and preparing those who would carry the Cycle forward.

WHAT GORDON ASKS OF US
Gordon asks only that we listen without fear, serve without pride, and remember what waits beyond the breath.
The Cycle is not punishment.
It is correction.
We are not lost.
We are becoming.

HENRY OZLEY
1886 - 1949
BEFORE GORDON, THERE WAS HENRY
Henry Ozley was the first to put “line to bark” the Valley’s voice with understanding. He kept careful records of what he saw and felt, though many called it madness.
His knowledge passed to his daughter, Edith Ozley, who preserved it in silence. Through her, it reached Gordon, who remembered what Henry began.
“The root does not begin where it breaks the soil.”
GORDANS STUDY OF THE RETURNED BODY
“The Returned are not monsters. They are what we were before we forgot.”

WHAT WE KNOW
THE PRINCIPLES BY WHICH WE REMAIN

.png)

WE LIVE WITH THE LAND
The land feeds those who respect it.
We grow what we need and take only what is given.
Nothing is wasted.
Every scrap returns.
The soil is a living thing.
We care for it, and it cares for us.
We share the labor.
No one is above the work.
No one is without purpose.

THE RULES OF RETURN
-
Leave behind all possessions.
-
Separate from outsiders and their ways.
-
Speak only when spoken to.
Silence protects the work.
-
Obey without question.
Doubt is the enemy of return.
-
Abandon the individual self.
We are one body.
One will.
To Question is To
Turn Away!

THE BODY IS TEMPORARY
Flesh binds.
It remembers what we must forget.
Pain is a doorway.
Endure it.
Blood is the soil of transformation.
Identity is a lie.
We shed it.
We become.
To reach natural existence, we must ABANDON the Human Mind and Body .
